Hasty & Tasty: Student Biryani’s Review

It was a sunny afternoon in October 1969 when students were coming home from school. They noticed a new sign on Katrak Road that said “Cafe Student.”

Haji Muhammad Ali, a man in his early 40s, was standing behind a small stall. The few plates on the counter were full of aromatic, flavorsome rice that was called Biryani. Passersby couldn’t resist trying this unique food.

Café Student started small but quickly became a brand, then a trend, and is now an icon. How did this happen? Through unfailing dedication from the workers, a clear vision for the future, and great customer service that kept people coming back.

LOCATION: FIND THE NEAREST YOU

The location is Katrak Road in Saddar, Karachi. It’s a pretty popular spot so it can get pretty crowded, especially during lunchtime because there are offices and shops nearby and people come here to get their lunch. The biryani is delicious.

BIRYANI: AVERAGE TASTE

I decided to try out Student Chicken Biryani after hearing good things about it from some friends. Unfortunately, the biryani didn’t quite live up to the hype. The taste was good initially, but it started to lose its flavour after a while.

I would say that Student Biryani is just average. If you’re looking for some decent biryani in Karachi, student biryani is the place to go.

STUDENT KHEER:

After having biryani, We decided to try out the kheer. The kheer was really good! It was sweet and had a great flavour. The taste was really consistent and it was a great way to end our meal. 

Must try it if you’re looking for something sweet.

PRICE: FAIR DEALS

I availed of the deal which was quite reasonable I think. It was something like this, 1 chicken biryani + Shami Kabab + Salad + 1 regular drink for Rs.330/-. Overall, the price was pretty good considering the quantity of the food.

SERVICE: EXCELLENT

The service was pretty good, they brought the food pretty quickly. The staff is also friendly and accommodating.

ATMOSPHERE: NOT FOR EVERYDAY

The thing that turned me off was the ambiance. It was just a small, cramped room with some plastic chairs and tables.

HONORARY MENTION:

Whenever you visit student Biryani, don’t forget to try out their famous Zarda. It’s made with long-grain basmati rice, saffron, and ghee. The Zarda is then garnished with green chilies, Cham Cham, and fried cashews. It’s a delicious treat that you shouldn’t miss.

FINAL VERDICT:

Student Biryani is a decent place to go if you’re looking for some good biryani at a reasonable price. The ambiance could be better but the service and food are both good. If you’re going with friends, there are some great deals that you can avail of.
